Physical Education

Advanced PE

Advanced Physical Education aims to teach students the rules and strategies of unfamiliar sports and to provide them with opportunity to practise a variety of complex skills, movement sequences and develop their game sense. A selection process is undertaken for entry into this subject whereby the student’s fitness results will be taken into consideration and a written application will be needed to be completed by the student.

Victory Christian College has formed a partnership with the Bendigo Academy of Sport to deliver the Athlete Education Program to our Advanced PE elective students. These sessions include: Podiatry, Injury Management, Sports Psychology, Integrity of Sport, Diet and Nutrition, Public Speaking and Social Media.

This subject is a preferred prerequisite for VCE Physical Education and VCE Health and Human Development.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

Duke of Edinburgh Award is one of individual challenge designed to encourage young people to develop into mature, active citizens who will positively contribute towards society. At the completion of the year, all students will have had the opportunity to achieve either their Bronze or Silver level, Duke of Edinburgh award.

It presents a balanced, non-competitive and enjoyable program of voluntary activities that encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility and service to the community. Much of the work for this Award will be completed out of school time.

Students design their own program by setting goals in activities that interest them.

Students will be required to participate consistently in the following three areas: Fitness, Skill and Community Service. As part of the Award, students will participate in a four day hiking adventure.

Sports Science

This subject is not only intended for those who have a passion for sport, but is also specifically designed to be a foundation for those who wish to study Physical Education in VCE. Sports Science will introduce students to the concepts of biomechanics, human body systems, anatomy, energy systems and training methods used by elite athletes to improve performance.

This subject may assist students who wish to study VCE Physical Education and Health and Human Development
