Is my child guaranteed a place in a VESA program?
No. VESA programs are selective-entry and places are limited. Students are selected based on their athletic ability, potential, attitude, behaviour, commitment to their sport, and, where applicable, coach recommendations and trial performances. Due to the popularity of the program, selection can be highly competitive.
Can my child withdraw from a VESA program during the year?
VESA programs are designed as year-long commitments. Students and families are expected to commit to the full year upon acceptance into the program. Requests to withdraw due to exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Can my child participate in more than one VESA program?
Generally, students may only participate in one sport-specific VESA program (Basketball, Soccer, or Netball when available). However, students may be able to combine a sport-specific program with VESA Strength and Conditioning if timetable and program requirements allow.
Are the VESA coaches qualified?
Yes. All VESA programs are led by highly experienced coaches who are recognised leaders within their sporting fields. Our coaches bring extensive playing, coaching, and high-performance experience from across Bendigo, Victoria, and Australia.
Will my child have opportunities to compete?
Yes. VESA students have access to a variety of competitive opportunities throughout the year. These may include School Sport Victoria (SSV) events, representative team trials, interschool competitions, VESA showcase games, and, where applicable, state and national tournaments.
What does the program fee cover?
Program fees contribute towards:
-
Professional coaching services
-
Program administration
-
Facility and equipment costs
-
Transport and bus hire for competitions and events
-
Competition entry fees
-

Are there any additional costs?

-

-
Optional apparel items
-
Interstate or international tours and competitions
-
Special events or camps that may be offered throughout the year
Families will always be notified in advance of any additional costs.
Does participation in VESA affect my child's academic studies?
VESA programs are integrated into the school timetable wherever possible. While students may miss some elective classes, every effort is made to minimise disruption to academic learning. Students are expected to maintain their academic responsibilities and stay up to date with all coursework.
What qualities are you looking for in VESA students?
VESA seeks students who demonstrate:
-
Excellence in their chosen sport
-
A willingness to learn and improve
-
Strong character and integrity
-
Respect for coaches, teammates, and opponents
-
Commitment to the VESA values of Excellence, Diligence, Humility, and Purpose
-
Can students apply if they do not currently play representative sport?
This depends on the program. While many successful applicants are competing at representative or equivalent levels, selection panels also consider athletic potential, coach recommendations, work ethic, and overall suitability for the program.
Are sponsorship opportunities available?
Limited sponsorship opportunities are available within the Strength and Conditioning program for students who meet specific eligibility criteria. Families interested in sponsorship support should contact the College for further information.
What happens if my child is not selected?
Students who are unsuccessful are encouraged to continue developing their skills and reapply in future years. Depending on the sport and availability, some students may be offered a place in a Development Squad as an alternative pathway.
How do students apply?
Applications are typically opened during Term 3 each year for the following school year. Families are invited to submit an application, and some programs may require students to attend a trial or selection session.
